I've just become an operator in August 2023, currently a general ticket. No radio or electronics back ground at all. I'm retired engineer from Norfolk Southern Railroad in 2013 with 36.5 yrs of service. Radio hobby started with just Baofeng HT radios and j-pole antenna for local net check-ins. I now have Anytone uv-5888 mobile, ICOM7300, Yaesu FTdx10. I use a 40-10 meter efhw with a 49:1 at home and a 40-2 meter Alpha Hextenna dipole in the field. I do POTA and DX hunting from home QTH, but I also like going out to the parks. I am currently erecting a 80-10 meter full wave loop antenna (aka Skyloop by Palomar-Engineers) anchored in pine trees up 48 feet using pulleys, and a tension line (para cord) with a weight at the bottom that gives slack to allow the trees to sway without putting excessing tension on the wire.
